All about my hair

I thought I would address a topic I get asked about allll the time...My hair!

My hair struggle...

I have had just about every hair color imaginable and while this was fun it led me to have very damaged and thin hair. In my efforts to correct this issue I have had most every type of extension there is. Finally, about 5 years ago I found the hair goddess herself, Katie Rogers - @mermaidhairxo , on Instagram, and my hair game changed forever...thank gawwdd!

What kind of extensions do I have?...

The brand is called Mermaid Hair. They are micro bead extensions, meaning they use a small bead to attach the extension to my real hair. The best part of this is there is no heat, glue or chemicals!  Beaded extensions are semi-permanent and last an average of 6 months up to a year. Personally I keep mine in for about 8 months before I get new ones.

What makes Mermaid Hair my favorite?...

It's twice as thick as any other semi-permenant extensions on the market and you can customize the color however you'd like! The color part wasn't the selling point to me since you can always have someone color your extensions...when I found about the thickness I was sold!

How expensive is Mermaid Hair?...

They aren't cheep but to me they are certainly worth it! The price will depend on the length and the thickness you wish to achieve.

How do I take care of my hair?...

As with any type of semi-permanent extension there is maintenance that must be done. This is because your real hair will grow and when it does it will cause the extension to weigh on your roots. Therefore, to not have too much weight on your hair and to keep your extensions hidden you must have them moved up (this is what they call maintenance). Personally I have my maintenance done every 6-8 weeks. This may sound like a lot but it's actually not bad at all! Its $150 and you get a supper cute hair style when they are done with your maintenance (I typically like to get a pretty braid).

Of course theres other maintenance that comes along with extensions like keeping them healthy. Unlike our real hair the extension is not attached to our scalp which means it can't get the same nutrients as your real hair therefore it is really important to get them as much nutrients as possible!

What products do I use?...

Before I list these out for you all I thought I would let you know these products are my go-tos that I use on a regular basis. Regardless of if you have extensions or not I highly recommend these products below:

  1. Shampoo and conditioner: Tigi Catwalk Oatmeal & Honey Shampoo and Conditioner
  2. Leave in conditioner: Olaplex Hair Perfector No 3
  3. Heat protectant: CHI 44 Iron Guard Thermal Protection Spray
  4. My favorite oil/shine serum: Moroccanoil Treatment Light, I pretty much always have the travel size one in my purse!
  5. My favorite hair mask: Moroccan Oil Weightless Hydrating Mask
  6. Favorite Purple Shampoo: Unite Hair Blonde Shampoo, 8 fl.oz.

***Make sure you get light in both of the Moroccan Oil brand products...the others will leave your hair feeling dirty***
